Description

Z Machine is a breezy, arcade-style tank roguelite where you rumble through colorful zones packed with shambling foes, mini-objectives, and loot crates. Between sorties you stash resources in a warehouse, then bolt on better armor plates, barrels, treads, and gadgets before heading back out. The loop feels great: quick runs, meaningful upgrades, and just enough danger to keep you alert without being punishing. How to play Enter a map, kite zombie packs in wide loops, and complete simple contracts—clear nests, escort a rover, hold a capture ring. Elites telegraph charges and spit volleys; mines, turrets, and oil slicks help you control space. Crates and supply trucks drop credits and materials for your base. Back in the garage, invest in reload speed, stability, ammo racks, radar pings, and tread handling; each upgrade nudges your playstyle toward “glass cannon,” “indestructible bulldozer,” or a balanced build. Controls WASD / Arrows: Drive Mouse: Aim turret LMB: Fire main gun R: Reload (manual; auto when empty) Q / E: Cycle gadgets (mine, shield, drone) Space: Handbrake pivot / drift M: Map / contracts Esc: Pause / upgrades (out of combat) Strategies Early economy: Reload speed + stability first. More shells on target beats raw damage at low gear. Circle-strafe: Keep enemies on your turret’s 2–4 o’clock; pivot with the handbrake to keep aim while moving. Mine discipline: Drop mines as you kite elites through chokepoints; don’t spam them in open fields. Ammo management: Burst, don’t spray. Dry magazines during panics are what end runs. Route smart: Chain objectives that sit along one loop so you’re always gathering crates while traveling. Short review Fast, friendly, and upgrade-forward. The tactile driving and readable enemies make it easy to learn, while buildcrafting (barrels vs. racks vs. treads) keeps the meta interesting across many runs. FAQs Permadeath? Runs reset, but warehouse upgrades and blueprints persist. Co-op? Most versions are solo; some modes feature asynchronous leaderboards. Gore level? Cartoonish effects only—no graphic content. Difficulty options? Story, Standard, and Endless Horde with scaling rewards. Accessibility? Aim assist, color-blind palettes, and camera shake toggle.
